Co-membership and Co-operation: Interpersonal discourse strategies within communities of practice

The monograph presents a collection of three studies interrelated by their focus on the realization of interpersonal meanings in discourse and by the common methodological framework anchored in Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics. The research is grounded in a genre-based approach within two specific communities of practice – academics and computer game players – and aims to characterize the interplay of the domain-specific interpersonal means in three distinct genres: conference presentations, undergraduate textbooks and computer role-playing games.

Kolektivní monografie je souborem tří studií, jejichž společným záměrem je analýza různých prostředků realizace interpersonální jazykové funkce v autentickém diskursu a které se opírají o jednotný metodologický základ Hallidayovy systemické funkční lingvistiky. Prezentovaná zjištění jsou výsledkem originálního výzkumu využívajícího postupů žánrové analýzy v diskursu dvou diskursních komunit (tzv. communities of practice) – akademiků a hráčů počítačových her – a představují stylisticky příznakové prostředky nesoucí interpersonální významy ve třech specifických žánrech: konferenční prezentaci, vysokoškolské učebnici a počítačové hře.
